Yin yoga is based on traditional Chinese medicine; positions are held for a longer period of time to release tension from the connective tissue in the body, help moisture in the joints and stimulate energy lines called Meridians. There are 12 main meridians in the body and they connect to our organs.
The pericardium itself is not an organ but a fiery energetic line that follows the line of the chakras and is the protector of the heart. Any emotional imbalances or traumas pass by the pericardium. In particular, the pericardium connects to grief, heartbreak, loss of self, powerlessness, not being able to let go, and so forth.

The workshop will begin with aromatherapy essential oils to open the heart, and a grounding shamata meditation (Buddhist meditation focused on breath) followed by the yin practice. Within the practice we will massage a certain acupressure point, and Marianna will describe the significance of each posture and movement. The workshop will close with a long savasana and meditation, accompanied by sound healing.
