Jivamukti Fundamentals with Amy McDonald: standing poses and forward bending
24th January 2016: 12.15pm until 2.45pm
Whether beginning yoga to gain fitness, strength and flexibility or to help calm a busy mind, these two 'Jivamukti Fundamentals' workshops are a great place to start. These workshops will explore different themes each month; January's is standing and forward folding asanas.
Amy will be breaking down the fundamentals of the Jivamukti Yoga practice, including physical postures as well as some breathing and meditation techniques.
This course is open to all levels: from those beginning or returning to the practice, to more experienced practitioners wanting to refine their skills.
Standing poses reflect back to us something about our willingness to connect to the earth, to all beings and to all things in nature, resulting in confidence and balance. These postures set us up for safe alignment and strong grounding and steadiness in the rest of our practice.
We will then flow further onto forward bending which take us into our past, teaching us how to resolve old issues by letting go of negative emotions that become trapped in the hamstrings, the hips and the back.
We will look at how to harness the breath and start to break down Surya Namaskar (sun salutations), as well as experiencing the fundamental forward bends and hip openers we need to progress and build flexibility in our practice.
In these workshops alignment is the emphasis. In our time together you will be helped to progress into asanas with the use of different techniques and props that can be applied in open classes, providing you with the underlying structure to be able to progress your practice and enter into Vinyasa class intelligently and safely.
