Have you ever experienced a full length traditional hatha yoga class? In most Western yoga studios, classes are usually limited to ninety minutes and they are generally based purely on a physical practice. However, this form of yoga practice is a far cry from its traditional roots in India where it’s customary to practice yoga early in the morning for at least two to three hours per day.

Hatha yoga, the foundation of all the asana and pranayama practices is an individual, spiritual and most importantly holistic practice which is best understood without the lens of the modern fitness focused perspective.

The basic framework to follow within the hatha yoga tradition is based on the kriyas, a series of cleansing techniques, postures, breaths, meditations and mantras which function as purification techniques intended to remove negative energy from the body and mind.

Experiencing the full benefits of the yoga practice cannot be achieved without a little adherence to tradition, therefore during this masterclass we will take the time to explore a more ancient form of yoga in more depth. This will include a traditional hatha yoga asana practice (warm-ups, sun salutations, postures) and pranayama (breathwork). Furthermore, you will have the chance to engage energetically with your body, in pranava aum (repetition of specific mantras) with mudras (gestures).

We will then move on to studying traditional meditation techniques as an introduction to pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses) and dharana (concentration). We will end the masterclass with savasana and yoga nidra.

This masterclass will leave you feeling a deep sense of inner peace which can be carried forward to your everyday life.

Laurent brings his knowledge of hatha yoga to you, thanks to his education from the Bihar School of Yoga, the Swami Gitananda School of Yoga and Dr. A.N. Krishna Kurup in Kerala, India.
